UK OSB imports maintain positive momentum.
The latest timber and panel-product figures provide a positive signal for the UK OSB category. Data reported in September 2026 shows that UK OSB imports increased by 2.3% during the first half of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.
That follows revised full-year statistics for 2025, when OSB imports increased by 7.3% to approximately 484,000 m³, compared with 452,000 m³ in 2024. The value of those imports also increased by 12.9%.
The direction is notable because panel categories are not all moving in the same way. In H1 2026, OSB was among the product groups recording year-on-year import growth, alongside particleboard and MDF.
For independent builders' merchants, the figures reinforce OSB as a category worth watching: a familiar structural sheet material with broad construction applications and a supply market that continues to show positive import momentum.
Why structural OSB remains an important merchant category.
OSB is an engineered wood panel made from oriented wood strands bonded under heat and pressure. When the correct structural grade is specified, it can be used across wall, roof, floor and other load-bearing sheathing applications.
For builders' merchants, that breadth matters. A single panel category can serve multiple construction requirements, helping merchants support contractors working across new-build, refurbishment and general structural applications.
The latest import figures do not mean every segment of the construction market is growing at the same pace. They do, however, show that OSB itself is continuing to attract supply into the UK market.
